Cap, Senior Officer, US Navy, Gray, Cdr. Robert Prichard, Jr., USS Butler, Sicily, ETO & PTO
Great genuine WWII US Navy senior officer's gray cap.
Authorized in April 1943, the 'battleship gray' color was intended for providing better camouflage aboard vessels, and was only produced during one year.
The bullion oak leaves adorning the visor were intended for the ranks of Commander and Captain.
Manufactured by Joe Harris in San Francisco, California; size 7.
Good overall condition.
The name tag still present inside this visor hat indicates that it once belonged to some Robert Arthur Pritchard, Jr. The carbon copy of his notice of separation from naval service comes along with the cap.
Robert Arthur Pritchard, Jr. was born on September 20, 1915 in Brockton, Massachusetts and joined the US Navy on July 13, 1941. He went on to serve aboard the USS Butler (DD-636) in Europe, taking part in the invasion of Sicily, and the USS Hesperia (AKS-13) in the Pacific. He was discharged on August 20, 1946 as a Commander, and passed away on January 13, 1996.
