Odmor Skjelbostad was born on February 2, 1920 in Minot, North Dakota to Norwegian parents and joined the US Army on December 10, 1942. He was awarded his pilot's badge as a 2nd Lieutenant on May 23, 1944 (officer's ASN O-832505) and subsequently deployed to Europe in the fall with 361st Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force, flying P-51 Mustangs. He was awarded the Air Medal on March 17, 1945 and two Oak Leaf Clusters on March 29 and April 21 of that year, prior to being promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was discharged on April 28, 1946, and was killed in a car accident on August 16, 1970.
