Rare genuine WWII British No. 75 Mk II grenade, also known as the 'Hawkins mine'.
Introduced in 1942, this versatile weapon, featuring an unusual rectangular shape, contained about one pound of explosive.
Some chemical igniter could be set under the plate intended for that purpose, located at the rear, thus allowing the grenade to be used as an antitank device. Depending on the context, it could also be thrown just like a regular hand grenade, or used as a demolition charge. The 'Hawkins mine' was massively issued to US paratroopers prior to D-Day.
Dated June 1943; retains its original cap.
This deactivated grenade is empty and totally inert.
