Interesting genuine WWII US brown leather shoulder holster, displaying no production markings.
Private-purchase item, designed for a semi-automatic pistol (not included in this sale) and featuring a separate compartment intended for carrying a spare magazine.
Complete and in quite good overall condition; Lift-the-Dot fastener and pin buckles are in working order.
Some US Navy pilot wings have been stamped on the leather, under name D.J. Walkinshaw.
David Joel Walkinshaw was born on May 3, 1920 in Ontario, California and joined the US Navy on October 15, 1940 as an Aviation Cadet. He graduated from Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida as an Ensign in October 1941 prior to being deployed to the Pacific; promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on March 1st, 1943, he served two tours and earned various medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal -- four awards --, eventually retiring in 1966 as a Captain. He passed away on June 30, 2005.
