Grouping, Cpl. Frederick Bowes, Co. E, 30th Inf. Regt., 3rd Infantry Division, WIA, POW, MTO & ETO
Rare genuine WWII US Army grouping, related to some Private First Class Frederick R. Bowes , Company E, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, which includes the following items: - a Purple Heart Medal, coming in its original case with ribbon bar and lapel badge; - a lot of various wartime photographs and newspaper clippings. A copy of the book Stalag VII A : 1939-1945, published in Germany in 1982, comes along with this nice homogeneous set, in very good overall condition. Frederick R. Bowes was born on March 31, 1923 in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania and joined the US Army on March 23, 1943 (ASN 33505099). He went on to serve with Company E, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division and deployed to Europe, where he saw action at Anzio, Italy prior to participating in the landings in Southern France on August 15, 1944. Wounded in September and captured near Saint-Dié, Vosges, Eastern France, subsequently interned at Stalag VII A in Moosburg, Bavaria, Germany, he was liberated on April 29, 1945 and repatriated on May 19 of that year. Rare genuine WWII US Army grouping, which once belonged to some Francis J. Calhoon , 51st Medical Battalion, II Corps, and includes the following items: - Medical Department indentification card, issue to the above-mentioned GI in 1944 (picture is missing); - souvenir plaque, probably intended for a bracelet, on which date 1944 and mentions Naples , Anzio , Roma , Cassino have been engraved; - II Corps shoulder sleeve insignia (OD back); - 51st Medical Battalion distinctive unit insignia (screw back); - set of three medal ribbons: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three stars; - pair of U.S. collar disks (screw back); - six Overseas Service Bars; - 'Ruptured Duck'; - Service Stripe. Some American Defense Service Medal lapel badge, an Auxiliary V.F.W. pin badge, and two San Francisco souvenir coins complete this great homogeneous lot, in very good overall condition. Francis Joseph Calhoon was born on January 28, 1917 in Middletown, Pennsylvania and joined the US Army on March 17, 1941 (ASN 33011149). He deployed to Europe from August 6, 1942 to June 15, 1945, and was discharged eight days later as a Private First Class. Genuine WWII US Army grouping, which belonged to some Sergeant Cedric D. Coffey , made up as follows: - pair of dog tags, issued to Cedric D. Coffey , ASN 33683370, vaccinated in 1943, blood type A, Protestant, retaining its bead chains; - motor vehicle operator's permit, issued to the above-mentioned GI on September 19, 1944; - permanent class "A" pass, issued to the same NCO by 8th Infantry Training Regiment at Camp Croft, South Carolina. Cedric D. Coffey was born on June 30, 1906 in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Already serving with the National Guard, he was inducted into Federal Service on September 7, 1943 and was discharged on October 7, 1945 as a Sergeant. Grouping of various documents, which once belonged to Technician 5th Grade Morris Cutler and comprises the following elements: - birth certificate issued by the City Clerk's Office of Springfield, Massachusetts on June 16, 1941; - certificate issued by the American Red Cross on June 21, 1943, indicating that he completed the standard course of instruction in first aid to the injured at Camp Barkeley, Texas; - two German banknotes of the interwar period, with a face value of one rentenmark and two rentenmarks; - a worn-out copy of the booklet dedicated to the 99th Infantry Division and published at the end of the war; - a Jewish prayer book; - two membership cards issued bysome associations of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Morris Cutler was born on January 16, 1925 in Springfield, Massachusetts and joined the US Army on March 31, 1943 (ASN 32879293). He went on to serve with the Medical Department, deployed to Europe with 393rd Infantry Regiment, 99th Infantry Division and was wounded by shrapnel following the explosion of a mine in February 1945 near Elsenborn, Belgium.
