Liner, Helmet, M1, 2nd Lieutenant, 2nd Armored Division, Named
Interesting genuine WWII US Army M1 helmet liner, of the synthetic resin-coated, compressed-fiber type manufactured by Capac.
Some 2nd Lieutenant rank insignia and 2nd Armored Division insignia (decal) have been attached to the front.
Retains its khaki cotton web suspension and neckband with leather sweatband, OD-painted A washers and leather chinstrap.
Worn condition.
Various inscriptions visible on the inner surface of this liner indicate that it was successively worn by two distinct servicemen, including some Charles L. Gambill, officer's ASN O-50435.
Charles Liston Gambill was born on January 19, 1923 in Pryor, Oklahoma and joined the US Army on December 10, 1942 (ASN 18148371). He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in July 1945, and went on to serve with the War Crimes Group in Germany for three years. He retired on September 30, 1973 as a Colonel, and passed away on May 20, 2011.
