Lot of 40 Photographs, Cpt. Robert FitzGerald, 6th TCS, 374th TCG, 5th Air Force, USAAF, PTO

Interesting lot of over forty genuine WWII US Army photographs, mostly taken in the Pacific theater of operations within some C-47 squadron of the Air Forces, which once belonged to some Lieutenant Robert W. FitzGerald.

Nice homogeneous set, in excellent overall condition.

Robert Winfred FitzGerald was born on May 20, 1920 in Springfield, Massachusetts and joined the Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet on July 15, 1942 (ASN 11070878). He was awarded his pilot wings on April 15, 1944 as a 2nd Lieutenant, and deployed to the South Pacific in November of that year with 6th Troop Carrier Squadron, 3374th Troop Carrier Group. In May 1945, he took part in the dramatic 'Shangri-La' rescue mission in the jungle of New Guinea. He was discharged on June 6, 1946 with the rank of Captain, yet went on to build a career in the US Air Force and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He passed away on December 29, 1982.
