Genuine Vietnam War US Army green beret, featuring black leather headband, tightening ribbon and a pair of ventilation eyelets.

Manufactured by Bancroft Military Caps in Birmingham, Massachusetts.

Based on the version worn by British commandos during the Second World War, the green beret was introduced as a Special Forces distinctive headgear in 1954, but was not officially — and definitively — adopted until 1961, by a decision of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

A highly desirable Vietnam Era "Private Purchase" Green Beret Bancroft Military Caps company. Distinguished by its yellow/gold lining, this was the preferred headgear for career Special Forces soldiers who wanted a sharper look than the standard issue
